Advice for carers

We offer practical support and advice for Carers. Sometimes, just knowing advice for Carers is there can come as a huge relief. We offer practical support to help you day-to-day.

Advice for carers

Being a Carer can be isolating and exhausting, so it can feel like a lifeline to just talk to others in the same boat.

That’s why we are in contact with a network of over 200 Carer support groups in Gloucestershire offering friendship, advice and help for Carers to help you feel that little bit less on your own. It’s a chance to speak to other Carers in the same position, and help you feel as if you’re able to get out and about a bit, and just talk.

Of course, caring for someone means you can’t always get out of the house. To help, we have ‘Carers Line’ offering advice for Carers.  ‘Carers Line’ is staffed by our friendly, experienced team who will listen to you and offer you support when you need it most.

And sometimes, that need comes when the person you look after is ill. When that happens everything else falls to the wayside. That’s where our knowledgeable, trained people can offer you support, helping you with those tasks that you have simply had to leave behind because the person you are caring for needs you.

Our team can give you advice on money and benefits, arrange counselling when things just get too much, help you plan for the future, and even pop you down for training courses and well-being treatments that help you feel, even if it’s for just an hour, that you are looked after.

We also have a Carers Emergency Scheme. This means that if you are ill or, say, you are called urgently away, we can make sure that the person you look after will be supported. It is a way to at least take the edge off the worry of being a day-to-day Carer.

But of course, if Carers could have anything, they would have another pair of hands. That’s why we can support you with funding for a much-needed short break.

And now we even have our own static caravan by the sea to give you the chance of a seaside holiday – and some desperately needed, uninterrupted sleep.
