Carers Hospital Support helps carers find what help is available to them and the person they care for during and after a hospital admission, to ensure a good carer experience when the person they care for is admitted to hospital.

Information regarding the hospital and social care practice, including discharge procedure and what help is available once the person has been discharged from hospital, can be accessed on various wards across the two acute hospital sites.

The Hospital Liaison Officer works closely with hospital staff, who identify carers of the patients or if the patient themselves are carers. The Hospital Liaison Officer can then talk directly to them on the ward or arrange for an information pack is sent out if appropriate.  A pull up banner is put up outside the ward to alert Carers that the Hospital Liaison Officer is on the ward and is available to talk to any carers who need information regarding their caring role.

Carer information and advice points are held regularly in both Gloucester Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital and the Hospital Liaison Officer works on various wards at the two hospitals. Look for the Carers Gloucestershire banner advertising when the Liaison Officer is available.
